Why I’m Running

[rescue_spacing size=”20px”]

I’m running for election because I love Pismo Beach. This is where I raised my family.  As your council member, I’ll work to preserve our unique quality of life, while improving our City.  I am proud of the previous accomplishments: the construction of a new Pier and Plaza; the completion of the Shell Beach Streetscape; the opening of the Pismo Preserve; and the maintenance of responsible fiscal policies while continuing to support public safety departments that are second to none.

Erik Howell grew up in the Five Cities and graduated from Arroyo Grande High School. He attended Harvard University and USC Law School before returning home to Pismo Beach.

Over twenty-five years of public service have included terms as a California Coast Commissioner, a Pismo Beach Commissioner, a Lucia Mar School Board Trustee, a Clark Center Boardmember, and most recently as your Pismo Beach City Council Member.

Erik Howell will work collaboratively to:

  • Ensure a Secure Water Supply through the Construction of a Regional Water Project.
  • Improve our Economic and Environmental Well-being
  • Address the Need for Affordable Housing
  • Address Traffic Congestion and Speeding in our Neighborhoods
  • Develop Long-term Solutions to Our Parking Issues
  • Protect Public Safety

I’m running for City Council because I love Pismo Beach. This is where I raised my family.

While tourism is a bedrock of our city’s economy, a better job needs to be done at mitigating its negative impacts on permanent residents. My priorities include addressing the traffic, parking and rampant speeding impacting our neighborhoods. I support the rehabilitation of the public safety stations to reduce response times as well as partnering with surrounding cities to ensure a secure water supply by constructing Central Coast Blue in a cost-effective manner.

Pismo Beach needs bold yet proven leadership if we want to protect our quality of life, diversify our economy and improve our community.
